Prepare to enjoy yourselves

The main reason to join the Marine Club is to enjoy yourselves out on the water. A little time spent preparing beforehand will be invaluable in making any trip a real success. Outlined below are our top tips, but for more detailed information check out our Weather and Tides guide to the local waters.

  • Check the weather forecast, in particular the wind strength and direction.
  • Check the tides
  • Plan your route based on the forecast and tides - please ask for advice if you are not sure.
  • Be aware of hazards under the water.
  • Make sure you have additional clothing layers with you, as it can get a bit breezy on the water even on a warm day.
  • Ensure you have a way to communicate with us, mobile phone or VHF.

1. Menai Bridge to Aber Menai

Aber Menai at the south west entrance to the Menai Strait is a perfect spot to drop anchor and enjoy the magnificent views of Snowdonia. For this trip it is important to check the tide and wind. There are sand banks that require navigating, so this stopover works best at high water, wind with tide. See our weather and tides guide for more information.

2. Menai Bridge to Puffin Island

Between May and the beginning of August, Puffin Islands welcomes the Puffins

3. Plas Newydd
