RYA First Aid Course

This practical one-day course follows the RYA syllabus and is designed to equip you with essential first aid knowledge for marine environments. It’s specifically tailored for emergencies at sea, where professional medical help might be delayed.

The course is ideal for RYA instructors, skippers, crew, and anyone spending time on the water, whether recreationally or professionally. It also meets the RYA requirements for most instructor qualifications or certificates of competence with commercial endorsements.

The training includes hands-on practice and real-life scenarios, giving you the confidence to act quickly and effectively in the unique challenges presented by the marine world.

What the course covers:

  • CPR and the recovery position for adults, children, or infants
  • Identification and treatment of hypothermia and cold water shock
  • How to respond to drowning-related incidents
  • Emergency procedures for injuries such as bleeding, burns, and fractures
  • Use of first aid equipment, tailoring your onboard kit for marine situations
  • Communication with rescue services, including helicopter evacuation
  • Situational awareness in prolonged emergencies when help is not immediately available
  • By the end of the course, you’ll hold an RYA First Aid Certificate, valid for three years.
